Any eye pain or discomfort is considered an emergency.  Eye ulcers that go untreated can progress to blindness or loss of the eye.  We receive referral eye cases for long and short term ulcer treatments.  A subpalpebral catheter is a special system placed surgically under upper horses’ eyelid to help administer eye drops without touching the eyelids. This helps the horse relax during treatment times, and allows for proper dosing of the medications.  Specialized eyelid surgeries and corneal repairs can be performed under general anesthesia as well.
